BP is carrying out its final tests on Wednesday ahead of a risky deepwater bid, dubbed “top kill”, which it hopes will cap a devastating oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. (AFPTV/BP)
bp begins the procedure called ‘Top Kill’ today in hopes to plug up the gushing oil spill 5000 feet below the surface of the Gulf. This procedure has been succesful in the past but in much shallower depths. The bp oil well that is gushing 25,000 barrels a day sits 5000 ft below the sea where enormous ocean pressure and darkness make for a difficult environment. Only submersibles and robotic equipment can work at these depths.
