Afghanistan is one of the third world’s ‘THIRD WORLD’. The Islamic country has only one paved highway and education and infrastructure is scarce. Yet this is the place where the most devastating attack on the United States came from. In the last week some have called for a withdrawal out of Afghanistan some say it is unattainable that an Afghan government can provide security or beat back the Taliban insurgency.
It is true the Afghan government lead by President Hamid Karzai can’t provide the type of security it requires to control the country as a whole but to fold tent and head out such as advised by journalist George Will and other Fox News pundits is certainly a recipe for disaster. Afghanistan would most likely be overrun by the Taliban again and Al-Qaeda will set up shop again to plan there next terrorist attack on the United States.
I agree with President Obama ,Secretary Gates, and General Petraeus in trying to weaken Taliban and Al-Qaeda insurgents and continue to recruit and train Afghan security forces in defending the weak Afghan government. Success in Afghanistan is only going to come if we can withdraw knowing that Afghanistan is not going to become another haven for Islamic extremism and spiral back into chaos.
