Barack Obama is in Florida and held a press conference this morning a town hall meeting this afternoon and then addressed the national urban league in Orlando. Obama when questioned about the recent McCain attacks through TV and on the spot statements by McCain and surrogates identified the attacks as cynical and not racist today. This is surly a precursor to the type of ads the McCain campaign will use up to the election in November. It is a dangerous strategy and can prove effective but can be very risky for the McCain campaign. Sen. McCain better be careful playing with fire because sooner or later he and his campaign may get burned. Also, Obama is open to some off shore drilling as long as it is part of a total package to revamp Americas energy policy and a way to curb our foreign dependence. Tonight Obama addressed the National Urban League in Orlando on a whole host of issues…

Obama says McCain campaign is cynical, not racist

This town in Brevard Country, known for the Kennedy Space Center and NASA, was the site for Senator Obama\’s town hall meeting. The gym at the local community college was packed with folks eager to talk about economic challenges facing Floridians.

In his opening remarks before the questions, Barack took some time to address the issue of space exploration and scientific research, tying it to the economic challenges that America faces:

This is an administration that has been anti-science, whether on the issues of stem cell research or climate change. I want to promote a science based economy and I want to invest in science, that is what is going to drive our economy in the long term.

You don\’t have to be an expert (a rocket scientist for instance), to see that America\’s economy faces serious challenges. One of the surest ways of putting it back on track is by putting an emphasis to the things America excels at, technology and innovation.
