In this July 13, 2002 file photo the Berlin landmark \’Victory Column\’ is seen in an aerial view as ravers dance around the trucks of the annual \’Love Parade\’, a gathering of fans of techno music in the Berlin district of Mitte. Hundreds of thousands joined the event. The beginning of repairing our image abroadmuch more to come

Kennedy – I am a Berliner – Ich Bin Ein Berliner

Barack Obama was to speak at the Bradenburg Gate but since he\’s not officially the President yet he will deliver his speech to the German people at the Victory Column which is just at the end of a tree lined boulevard just opposite of the Bradenburg Gate. Both John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan gave very stirring and prolific speeches during the Cold War at the Bradenburg Gate and it was hoped that Obama would be the third but that speech can come later. For now the Victory Column with the Brandenburg Gate in the background and the thousands of Germans watching should be enough History for one day…
