McCain\’s Economic Adviser Calls Americans \”A Nation of Whiners\”

Presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama speaks at a town hall meeting in the gymnasium at Robinson Secondary School in Fairfax County, Virginia. Obama gleefully pounced on a comment by a top backer of his Republican White House foe John McCain that Americans were a \”nation of whiners\” spooked by a \”mental recession.\”(AFP/Getty Images/Chip Somodevilla)

Phil Gramm, a former Texas senator who is a vice chairman of the Swiss bank UBS and currently advising John McCain called Americans \”A Nation of Whiners\” and the current economic downturn a \”Mental Recession\”. I would ask Phil Gramm and John McCain to tell that to the lay-ed off worker in Michigan or the textile worker in the South. They should talk to truck drivers or middle class Americans who are trying to deal with the high gasoline prices. Is this the type of economic policy and attitude we can expect from a McCain administration?
