Also yesterday Barack Obama pressed both Gen. David Petraeus and Amb Crocker on what is the endgame? What can be considered a tolerable amount of violence and Iranian influence in Iraq in a post American withdrawal? There is no perfect solution but what will be that threshold that will allow less American military presence in Iraq?

My biggest worry is not the military. The military has done all that is expected of them its the diplomatic front that is weak. Ambassador Crocker and Secretary Condi Rice talk a big game but getting on a plane and flying from one country to the next and nothing is done. Why can\’t they figure out a reasonable compromise that will lead the three factions in Iraq Sunni, Shia, and Kurds to come to some agreement that will keep the sovereignty of Iraq in tact yet ethically separated?

This has been President Bush\’s Achilles heel he doesn\’t have a strong diplomat that can push and pull the region into action and bringing a solution to the ethnic divides in Iraq. Secretary Condi Rice is the most useless foreign diplomat in my lifetime. When was the last treaty signed in the region? When was Condi Rice ever effective in bringing any compromises in Iraq.

Right now we\’re paying off Sunni\’s in Anbar to quell the violence. That\’s not a diplomatic solution that\’s a bribe. Diplomacy in the Middle East is a dismal failure and President Bush is allowing Secretary Condi Rice to continue to drive a bus in a ditch.
