President Obama,”I am 100% committed to the mission of NASA and its future.”

Details: Obama Remarks at NASA on April 15, 2010…

The President outlined his goals for NASA as the shuttle program comes to an end. The President will increase NASA’s budget by $6 billion over the next 5 years as it transitions to maintaining the International Space Station with Russia’s help and boosting more private and commercial involvement for low earth orbit missions. The president will move forward with the development of rockets and a vehicle that can take manned space flights to asteroids and to Mars. Instead of returning to the Moon the President sees more opportunity in focusing on deeper space exploration.

SPACE: Where No Man Has Gone Before…

The Stream…

Today President Obama unveils the future of America’s space program at Cape Canaveral, FL. The economy has not only taken a toll on the American people but has directly affected NASA’s budget and how to fund such programs as Constellation the manned missions to the Moon and Mars. The President under budgetary pressures due to the economy and the new healthcare reforms to cover over 30 million uninsured Americans will have to tone down exuberant costly missions such as manned flights and the first man to land on Mars.

Although an extensive and ambitious space program like Constellation maybe put on hold I’d like to see a Gemini like program a transition space mission which builds a vehicle that can travel past the Moon and perhaps just an orbital mission to Mars and back.  We should concentrate on space travel and not just landing on Mars. I’d rather see more robotic explorers to land on Mars and other planets and more emphasis on testing long duration manned space travel and the vehicle to take us further than ever before.

A Bold Approach for Space Exploration and Discovery…

NASA Gets Go For Ares 1-X Rocket Launch 11:30am est.

NASA hasn’t had much luck with mother nature but perhaps today will be the charm. The Ares 1-X is the next generation of rockets that will launch the new Orion space vehicle to the Moon and hopefully someday to Mars.

NASA Set To Impact Moon Crater Causing An Explosive Plume

NASA lunar mission combines romance of moon with lust for cosmic violence…

NASA's Lunar CRater Observation and Sensing Satellite (LCROSS) ...

NASA’s Lunar CRater Observation and Sensing Satellite (LCROSS) and its Centaur booster rocket crashes into the moon in this artist’s illustration released October 9, 2009. The mission is designed to determine whether there is useful water ice hidden in the rocks and soil of a deep polar crater. REUTERS/NASA/Handout

That’s right NASA is bombing a moon crater at or around 7:30 am est. Friday morning. There will be extensive live video coverage of the moon explosion on local networks, NASA TV and at  NASA.gov   You can also see the explosion from earth with a telescope. The mission Lunar CRater Observing and Sensing Satellite will send two parts of the spacecraft into the crater causing an impact that will send debris miles above the moon surface. Minutes later another spacecraft will fly through the plume gathering information whether water exists or not in ice pools within craters near the south pole.
