The initiative to tax and legalize the possession of small amounts of marijuana was defeated in California yesterday 56%No- 44%Yes. Voters were not ready for full legalization of marijuana, but a discussion of the possibility of reforming marijuana laws did step forward. I don’t advocate the use of marijuana, but I do see it as a safer alternative than alcohol and hard drugs by use of adults. Read more here…
Over a month ago prop 19 had a 6 or 7 point lead in passing and then within the last month polls indicated support slipping and a 7 point lead for opposition, but recent polls this week show support gained and now proposition 19 appears it could go either way about evenly split for the historic repeal of marijuana laws in California. Major support for the proposition will have to come from younger voters who may not be the most reliable voters but could come out Tuesday Nov. 2nd and rally behind passing the prop 19.
Proposition 19 could be a big tax boom and an economic vanguard for entrepreneurs also drug cartels could see significant losses in the marijuana trade. Legalization for adults could also save California near a billion dollars in enforcement, prosecution, and incarceration of non violent offenders. A lot of eyes will be red late Tuesday night waiting for the results on the historic proposition and it could be the first significant common sense drug policy change in the United States in 74 years.

California will see a 1.4 billion dollar infusion of tax dollars after Proposition 19 passes Nov.2nd. Mexican President Calderon not happy that California passing legalization of marijuana simply because Mexico tends to lose millions perhaps billions of dollars from the marijuana trade. Other states most likely to follow California further disrupting the marijuana trade with Mexico. Prop 19 takes the marijuana out of the drug dealers and criminal gangs thus providing regulations and oversight of the benign drug. So get out the chips and dip because I have a feeling there will be a lot of Californians with the munches after Nov.2nd.

The long time fight over marijuana legalization will be voted on by Californians this year. The referendum would allow the sale and possession of marijuana for adults 21 years and older. Already the quasi legalized medical marijuana industry produces 14 billion dollars in the state of California. The country will be watching to see if California breaks the glass ceiling and thus cause a domino effect that could see further legalization of marijuana sales/possession in other states.
